Self Disclosure can pose prominent challenges for anyone working in the mental health & substance use fields – working with teens, adults, families or “running” groups
For many practitioners the art, science, and ethics of sharing about oneself is often not a dichotomous process. Let’s unpack and explore together the layers of our ongoing practices of ethical healing work & how we each may come to decide if/when to share about us.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize & describe the five types of counselor & psychotherapist self-disclosure
- Examine ethical guidelines from different licensing bodies and state certification boards regarding Self-Disclosure, Self-Care, and client well-being amidst the evolving landscape of mental health in 2024
- Illustrate three distinct experiential scenarios of self-disclosure in a therapeutic setting, highlighting the benefits, risks, and potential harms.
